Using one base colour family but changing the depth or tone slightly between rooms creates a gentle transition. For example, a light grey in the hallway, a slightly deeper grey in the living room, and a warm greige in the dining area all feel related, not random.
This approach keeps the home from feeling monotonous – every room identical – while still avoiding jarring jumps between totally different colours. Your eye moves calmly from space to space, which makes the whole house feel more cohesive and thoughtfully designed.
It also helps if you like open-plan layouts where rooms are partly visible from each other. Because tones are related, they blend nicely instead of clashing.
Most paint brands group colours on the same strip; using neighbouring shades on that strip is an easy way to build this kind of soft flow.
