What advantage is there in finalising electrical point locations before tiling begins?

Electrical points and tiling are closely linked. Once tiles go on, moving electrical boxes becomes much harder, more expensive, and usually messier. You risk cracking tiles, redoing sections, or living with awkward placements.

By finalising switchboards, plug points and light fixtures before tiling, you give the electrician clear marks to follow. They can chase the walls, install boxes, and run conduits exactly where needed. Then tilers can cut neatly around those points, leaving clean edges and proper alignment.

It also forces you to think practically: “Where will I actually plug in appliances?” “Where do I want bedside switches?” “Will I need a socket near the dining area?” Once the tiles are up, adding extra points is much more painful.

Planning ahead like this gives you a more comfortable, usable home and avoids the feeling of “I wish I had a plug here” every time you stretch a cable across the room.
