Sugary drinks, syrups, juices and sweet sauces are sticky and attractive to ants, cockroaches and other insects. If they sit on the floor, even for a short while, they can leave a residue that keeps pulling in dust and pests.
On some materials, sugar can also stain or cause discolouration, especially if mixed with colourings or acids (like in sodas). Over time, that area can become a slightly darker, rough patch that’s hard to fully clean.
Even on tiles, where you might think “it’s fine, I’ll wipe later”, that stickiness spreads as people walk through it, leaving a wider area that feels dirty underfoot.
A quick wipe with a damp cloth or mop as soon as the spill happens is usually enough. Doing it immediately prevents both hygiene problems and long-term marks.
