Why is it wise to consider pet habits when choosing new flooring materials?

Published on

Pets bring joy – and claws, accidents, hair and muddy paws. Different floor types handle these realities very differently. If you choose flooring purely on looks without thinking about your pet’s habits, you might end up with scratched, stained or noisy surfaces very quickly.

For example, high-gloss wood or soft laminates can show claw marks more easily. Very light carpets can suffer from repeated stains. Slippery tiles might be hard for older dogs to walk on.

By considering how your pet moves, sheds and behaves, you can choose more forgiving options: tougher finishes, slightly textured tiles, rugs that can be washed, or vinyl/plank floors designed to handle wear.

The goal isn’t to design the whole house around the animal, but to pick materials that survive real life gracefully, so you’re not constantly stressed about every zoomie or small accident.
