Why should freshly painted rooms be aired out properly before regular use?

Fresh paint releases odours and, in some cases, volatile compounds while it dries and cures. Even with low-VOC paints, there’s usually a noticeable smell at first. Good ventilation helps clear these fumes faster and makes the room more comfortable and healthier to occupy.

Opening windows, running fans and keeping doors open (if safe) for at least a couple of days after painting is a smart move. It also helps the paint dry more evenly and reduces the chance of lingering “paint smell” on fabrics and furniture.

For bedrooms, especially where children or people with breathing issues sleep, airing out is even more important. Try to paint them when you can avoid sleeping in that room for at least one night.

It’s a small patience test, but it ensures you enjoy the fresh look without the heavy, trapped smell.
